A Unique Bird Watching Excursion

Carrie Butler and Larry Devroy with the Port of Portland will lead a bird watching class at 3:00 pm on Friday. After an indoor presentation, participants will walk across the street to the Vanport Wetlands for a guided bird watching tour.

The 90.5-acre Vanport Wetlands site is located next to Interstate 5 and the Expo Center in north Portland. This mitigation site was purchased to compensate for wetland impacts at several locations on Port property, primarily for aviation purposes. Historically, the Vanport Wetlands site was part of the Columbia River floodplain, however rainwater and storm water runoff are now the sole sources of surface water.
