Becky Kemery
Author
Becky Kemery lived in her first yurt at a retreat center in the early 90’s. Since then she has lived in four yurts in the mountains of Oregon, Washington and Idaho. Her book, YURTS: Living in the Round, contains all the information and resources you’ll need to buy a yurt, set it up and live in it successfully.
Before starting on her book, she wrote general articles about natural building, which you may have read online. She helped start a Public Forum on Sustainability in her hometown in Idaho, along with a Sustainable Living Collection that has placed over 100 sustainability books and videos in her local library as a resource for the community.
After the talk you’ll find Becky at the GoYurt Shelters booth, where she’ll be signing books and where she invites you to continue the conversation about yurts and sustainability. more |
YURTS: Big Life, Small Footprint
Friday, March 28 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
YURTS: Big Life, small footprint, covers both practical and esoteric aspects of one of the oldest forms of indigenous shelter still in use today. With stunning images, the slideshow portrays the history and architectural evolution of this simple but beautiful round shelter.
Accompanying the photographs, Kemery tells first-hand stories of people using yurts to achieve their shelter and business dreams. She also shares practical information on successful yurt living and design ideas that can be applied well beyond the scope of yurts.

Becky currently lives on a permaculture-based homestead in the mountains of northern Idaho in a setting surrounded by herb and vegetable gardens. Moose and wild turkeys pay regular visits, and she enjoys the occasional moonlit serenade by coyote chorales through the walls of her forest green yurt.
In addition to writing, Becky also works as a union tradeshow carpenter and workshop caterer. In 2002, she founded the North Idaho Public Forum on Sustainability (PFOS), which sponsors monthly forums on topics relating to sustainability, and she started the Sustainable Living Collection, which includes books, videos, and journals, at her local library. Her articles on natural building can be found online at www.alternativesmagazine.com and www.hopedance.org. Her yurt Web site is www.yurtinfo.org.
